May through November is considered the best time to go to Mauritius because the weather is milder and drier, which makes it easier to view the island. The weather is great during these months, which makes sightseeing, outdoor activities, and walking trips a lot more fun than in the hot summer months. The beautiful Pamplemousses Botanical Garden is at its best right now, as are the crowded streets, shops, and beaches of Port Louis. The warmer temperature also makes mornings and late afternoons great times to visit the sights, take pictures, and enjoy the island's busy culture without getting too hot.

If you want the perfect experience, go between May and November. The weather’s cooler, so it’s actually nice to walk around without feeling like you’re melting. Try getting there in the morning—you’ll catch the garden at its most peaceful, and the light’s great for photos. The giant water lilies and all those tropical plants really show off during these months. Honestly, skip midday if you’re visiting in summer (December to April); it gets way too hot.
Port Louis
May to November is your window for Port Louis, too. The city feels just right—warm enough, but not stifling. Mornings or late afternoons are best for checking out the markets, wandering into museums, or just hanging out by the waterfront. If you go on a weekday, you’ll dodge the crowds at the main spots. Walking around the city and exploring the markets is a lot more fun when it’s not sweltering, so the cooler season is the way to go.

The historical district of Grand Port encompasses much of the south-eastern side of the island.
